Diversified Health Occupations
Course Description:
The Diversified Health Occupations Program is designed for high school seniors who are interested in health related careers.This course represents a coordinate blend of formal classroom instruction, guest speakers on related topics, scheduled field trips, and clinical rotations in the health care community at a local hospital and several other health care clinical sites.Preferred prerequisite is Intro to Medical Science, although admittance can be granted based on position availability, a student interview and permission from the instructor.
Classes involve studying topics such as: the health care delivery system, communication and observation skills, safety, concepts of microbiology, anatomy and physiology, life stages, core procedures for the health care assistants, career exploration in the health care field and leadership skills.Students will be participating in clinical rotations involving job shadowing and internships during the year, choosing from areas like an Activities Director Aide, Animal
Care Aide, Dental Aide/Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT/METS), Medical Office Assistant, Pharmacy Aide, Physical Therapy Aide, Respiratory Therapy Aide, and Radiology Technician Aide.
